Marshall Crane (1815-1887)(, (founder of the Berkshire Museum and third-generation owner of Crane & Co., MA). Sitter is Frances Mary Harford, born c. 1760, daughter of Frederick Lord Baltimore, wife of William-Frederick Wyndham. Another portrait of Miss Harford by George Romney is in the Frick Collection.

Follower/Circle of Philipp Peter Roos, called Rosa da Tivoli, (Frankfurt 1657-1706 Rome) depicting a shepherdess and her flock in a landscape. Oil on canvas. Assortment of labels on the back, reading “Thomas A/EY & Sons, Dealers in works of Fine Art, London: J.G. Walther (18th c. German organist) (both on reverse of frame) “Over 35 years with the late Messrs. Gruncy & Smiths (Art Dealers), 4 Exchange Street, Manchester (operating in the 19th century), and “Henry A. Rawlin Expert picture restorer and liner. ” Painting possibly relined, only one tine point of restoration visible under blacklight.
